Lyonichka’s Story — 2
Medical transport vehicle on a snowy road

The onset of illness 💔

At 3 years old, Lyonichka’s life changed suddenly. A severe illness, later diagnosed as the rare West Nile virus, struck him without warning. Within a short time, he lost the ability to move his arms and legs and could no longer breathe on his own — a ventilator became necessary to keep him alive.

The prognosis

Doctors at several clinics delivered difficult news to Lyonichka’s mother: her son would never breathe or move independently again. Even after thorough examinations in Germany, the prognosis remained unfavorable.

Seeking help ❤️‍🩹

Lyonichka’s family, supported by Olesia, the lead doctor, did not accept this prognosis. Olesia sent medical records to specialists worldwide, consulted with doctors, and explored treatment options in various countries. Her persistence led to the right choice: the ANAGENNISI clinic in Greece, where the GMTP team provided expert care for this complex case.

The road to recovery

Through specialized treatment and surgery on his diaphragm, Lyonichka began to overcome the effects of the illness. Gradually, he regained movement in his arms and legs and — remarkably — began breathing without the ventilator.

Dreams for the future 💗

Today, Lyonichka is learning new languages and dreams of becoming a blogger to inspire and help others. His journey continues, and his family remains committed to helping him thrive.
