Mykyta’s Story

Diagnosis 💔

Mykyta is 4 years old. His condition suddenly worsened, and after examinations the family received a diagnosis: a brainstem tumor.

On December 3, 2024, doctors diagnosed a benign tumor beneath the cerebellar tentorium, complicated by hydrocephalus and brain swelling.

Two surgeries followed: on December 10, 2024, a shunt was placed to manage the hydrocephalus; on December 24, 2024, the tumor was partially removed.

Current situation

The tumor’s complex location made full removal impossible in Ukraine. It continues to grow, with a risk of becoming malignant.

On December 26, 2024, bulbar and neurological complications — including loss of the cough reflex — required a tracheostomy. Mykyta is oxygen-dependent, relies on a ventilator, and needs an aspirator to clear his airways. Periodic drops in blood oxygen levels (SpO2) pose an ongoing threat to his life.

Time is critical — each day the tumor presses harder on the brain, worsening the swelling. In Ukraine, doctors can offer only symptomatic care. The family has found a specialized clinic abroad, experienced in complex cases and ready to take on Mykyta’s treatment.
